Plano is a city within the Dallas-Fort Worth Metro area. Just 20 miles northeast of downtown Dallas, the area is well-developed with dense suburbs and commercial centers.

Most of Plano falls within Collin County. The seat of Collin County is the smaller town of McKinney to the northeast, where the county begins to blend into rolling farmland. Plano itself occupies a relatively flat portion of the county, from which it acquired its name. Parts of Plano fall within Denton County to the west, and Dallas County lies a short distance south of downtown Plano.
