Here are the top criteria I look for when choosing the best luxury cities in Texas:

• What is the entry price and highest price to live in the city or community? What is the median price? For example, Highland Park’s entry price point to live there is $250,000 for a condo and the max price point is $15,750,000. Westlake, Texas has an entry price at $1,075,000 and maxes out at $12,900,000. There are no condos or apartments in the entire city. This gives us a feel for the community.
• Is there upscale shopping and dining nearby? Highland Park is known for its high-end shopping center Highland Park Village, while Westlake is currently in the building stages and not quite there yet. 
• Are there apartments for rent in the area? What is the owner and renter ratio?
• How well maintained is the city as a whole? Does it feel a little run down or feel refreshing?
• Not that you have to drive a luxury car to state your status, but what do the majority of cars look like in the community as a whole? Are they nice, or are there many junkers on the road?
• What are the surrounding cities like? Is this community surrounded by other well-maintained cities and communities? Or are the neighboring cities run down a little?
• What is the median age of luxury homes in the neighborhood? Highland Park’s median age is 1982 and Westlake is 2007. So depending on what type of feel you want, this could be important to you. If you are looking for a new and upcoming area to find your luxury home in, Westlake may be a fantastic option as they are still developing the neighborhoods. If you want a more established area, Highland Park may be a better fit.

Highland Park

Highland Park is a city just 15 minutes north of downtown Dallas. If you like the high life of shopping, fine dining, and entertainment nearby, this may be your pick. Many professionals who do not want a long commute to work love the convenience Highland Park has to offer. Top in Texas for public schools, Highland Park is an attraction for out-of-state buyers looking for a community that values education and a beautiful nature-focused environment, highlighting the beautiful scenic nature trails and parks.

University Park

A prestigious group of neighborhoods

Dreaming of an estate close to downtown Dallas? University Park has estates up to $37,500,000 with Highland Park’s top school district. Similar in proximity, style, and feel, University Park has mature trees and famous architectural designs. University Park has several prestigious neighborhoods and is a small town close to city life.

Westlake

The up-and-coming affluent city of choice

Looking for the up-and-coming luxury town booming with potential? Westlake, Texas is located just 30 minutes northwest of Dallas and only 15 minutes from DFW International Airport. With a population of less than 2000, it is classified as a town although quickly growing. With top schools and a more relaxed life than Highland Park and University Park, many families are opting for a more peaceful environment. Westlake real estate prices start at $1 million for a townhome and $1.5 million for a single-family home. With the town center still being constructed, it is a great time to purchase while prices are still low. Once Entrada is completed, I anticipate it will draw in more buyers with fine dining and shopping at their fingertips. 

Westlake also has great school choices. Not only is the majority of the city feed into Carroll ISD, which is Texas’ #1 public school district for test scores, Westlake also has a highly ranked small charter school, exclusive to Westlake residents. If there are spots open, they allow the surrounding communities a place by lottery.

Westlake Hills

High living in the hill country

Looking for privacy in the hills? Westlake Hills is one of the most beautiful scenic cities west of Austin. This is a small neighborhood city. If you love nature and hills, you will love Westlake Hills. Wild Basin Wilderness Park and Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve are close by for those who enjoy the outdoors. Shopping and dining are nearby and you will experience a tight nit community since it’s quite small. The public schools are top-notch and are consistently ranked #1 school district by popular vote as shown on niche.com. 

If you will be working in the city of Austin, it is an easy commute just 10-15 minutes to downtown.

Bellaire, West University, River Oaks, Memorial Park

The most prestigious neighborhoods of Houston

If you’re looking for some of the most beautiful architecture and beautiful trees, drive the streets of Bellaire, River Oaks, and Memorial Park. While Houston is not my first pick for a Texas city, many come here for great opportunities. And it shows as Houston has some of the most expensive homes in the state with prices in this area starting from $300,000 on up to $30 million. If you want the city life close to Houston and access to many outdoor activities and attractions, Houston may be right for you.

Horseshoe Bay

Retirement on the lake

With a median age of 64.6, Horseshoe Bay makes for a great quiet luxury retirement town. Overlooking Lyndon B Johnson Lake, and next to the Horseshoe Bay Golf and Spa Resort, it’s an active way to spend your golden years. Horseshoe Bay is located in the Hill Country not far from Marble Falls, a fun county town sitting on the river. 

Colleyville

A luxury city with great family values

Know for its family-friendly environment, Colleyville, Texas, is a great place to plant your roots. It is also a favorite for retirees. The median home price is right at $750,000 and allows for starter luxury homes and sells up to $10.5mm. Colleyville is a northern suburb of Fort Worth and has a great reputation among the locals. I love the mature trees as you drive through the neighborhoods that many of the surrounding cities do not have.  Also conveniently located just 15 minutes from DFW International Airport, this is a nice city if you love traveling for pleasure or for work. The schools in Colleyville have a great reputation and there is a wonderful small Christian private school in the city as well with the classical model of education (which I love).

Barton Creek

The ultimate luxury lifestyle

Barton Creek is nestled in the Hill Country 10 miles west of Austin. There is a mixture of new and old homes in this exquisite city sitting on top of rolling hills. Some of the most exquisite Mediterranean-style homes are in Barton Creek. Many cities have a town center or shopping area at the center, but in Barton Creek, the country club is the heart of the city. Barton Creek Country Club and Resort has 3 golf courses, a beautiful fitness center, and a spa to enjoy. Shopping is just on the outskirts of the city.  

Barton Creek real estate ranges from $2 million to $12 million and is another great city for retirement. Depending on where you live in the city will determine the schools available. Most feed into Austin ISD., not known for the highest in the state, but still good. Many families choose among the several private schools in the area with St. Michael’s Catholic among the favorites.

Fort Worth – Edwards Ranch

Luxury with boots

Many are flocking to Fort Worth for its traditional values as well as value in a home. Edwards Ranch is a newer community southwest of Fort Worth with high-end shopping and dining at Clear Fork Ranch. Miles of walking/biking trails along the Trinity River will keep you enjoying your outdoor workout. Edwards Ranch is a gated community with Mid-century Modern, Modern Contemporary, Mediterranean style, and more! The downtown Fort Worth area is one of my favorite city areas as it’s much cleaner than many of the other major cities. With much of the city’s skyscrapers privately owned by the Bass brothers, it is well maintained in Sundance Square and is a favorite place for families to visit. 

Edwards Ranch is not well known, yet becoming a favorite quickly for those looking for a small luxury community to be a part of. Edwards ranch real estate prices range from $1.1 million to $2.5 million. 

Like other big city school districts, Fort Worth ISD does not rank at the top, however many do like the public schools in the area. Others choose to from several private school options and even homeschool for their children.

Boerne – Cordillera Ranch

Luxury communities to the max

While the city itself is not considered a luxury city, Boerne does have some of the most luxurious communities you will not want to miss, sitting in the most scenic hills of Texas. Boerne is a growing town with a charming downtown with fabulous restaurants and great shopping. And in just a short drive you can be home in your exclusive gated and guarded communities, with all the country club amenities you can imagine. The public schools are among the top-ranked in Texas and they have special catering for students on the spectrum. I love this school district! Geneva School of Boerne is also a great top private school option.

Southlake

Wholesome family living… with a touch of posh.

With the entry price for a single-family home around $650,000, and top pricing at $10,000,000, Southlake TX is luxury through and through. Southlake real estate has a median home price of $1.4 million. With the majority of homes built as custom, you get great quality in each and every house. It can also make a great investment if you purchase a home that needs some updating, and you don’t mind a few weeks of remodeling. Updated resale homes go quite high as many do not want the inconvenience and are willing to pay to avoid it.

Southlake is a family-friendly community with the top-rated schools in Texas. There are golf communities as well as retirement communities. Southlake TX is a great fit for just about anyone. The culture is a nice one. My office is in Southlake, we’ve gone to church in Southlake, and I have many friends who live here. I know the community very well. I love the vibe and community of Southlake, Texas.
